How simple is the installation process?
There are two parts involved in the installation of the Aomei Backupper in your PC. The first part is to download the software and the second part is the actual installation process.
Once you open the application setup file that you have downloaded from the official website, it will prompt you to download the actual setup file which is around 95 MB in size. So you need an active internet connection to proceed with the installation process.
After the download is completed, you can start the installation process by clicking on the ‘Run’ button. How simple is the user interface of AOMEI Backupper?
The user interface of AOMEI Backupper is very simple and can be used by anyone without any complexity. The entire software is divided into 4 sections based on the core features the software offers. You can access each of these features by switching over to the corresponding section of the software. The below guide will help you how to use the software for taking backup and performing restore operations.
In the home screen, you can find a list of all the backups taken. It also has a ‘New Backup’ button which when clicked will take you to the backup section where you can take backup of your system or files.
Now let’s discuss in detail about the 4 sections of the software.
This section of the software provides features and tools that allows you to take backup of your system, hard disk, partitions, files, and folders. The section also provides access to the file sync feature which allows you to backup folders by syncing the files in real time.
First, decide the thing (System / hard disk/ partition/files) that you wish to take backup and then click on the respective backup. I choose to back up a folder present in my PC, so I selected the File Backup option.
Now provide a name for your backup task and then select the folder or files which you like to take backup by clicking the ‘Add Folder’ button. Also, select the destination location where you would like to save the backup.
Now choose the file by using the browse button. You can also filter the settings and choose the file types that you want to take backup and the ones that you wish to exclude in the backup process.
You can also schedule this backup to run on another day by checking the ‘Schedule’ button and then entering the day and time on which you want the scheduled backup to run.
You can also select the backup scheme that you want to use for this backup by checking the Scheme button. The software provides 3 different backup schemes namely Full backup, Incremental backup, and Differential backup.
The full backup scheme will retain all the backup image files that you mention at the beginning. Once the specified number reaches, the older image files will be deleted to accommodate the new ones.
In the incremental backup scheme, the backups will be stored in groups and once the latter group gets full, the former group will be removed. A group consists of a full backup and multiple incremental backups.
The differential backup scheme is similar to that of a circular queue where the old backup will be deleted to accommodate a new backup once the backup queue is full.
After making all the necessary selections, click on the ‘Start Backup’ button to start the backup process. The backup process takes time depending upon the size of the folder. For me, it took only 2 minutes to take a backup of 1 GB folder.
Also please remember not to perform any other task when the backup is in progress as you may experience some slowdown in the performance of the system.
Similarly, you can use the other backup options like system backup, partition backup and hard disk backup following the above steps.
Similarly, for file sync, you need to mention both the folders that you wish to sync and click on the ‘Start Sync’ button to start the file syncing process.
In this section, you can restore your system or files back to a previous state using the backups taken. You can see a list of backups available which you can use to restore.
To test if the restore works properly, I have deleted a couple of folders in the backup folder that I have taken in the previous section. So there are only two folders there which you can see from the screenshot below.
Now, I select the folder backup taken earlier and try to restore it. Now click on the Next button to start the restore process.
Now select the backup point of the folder backup and then click Next.
Now select the files or folders that you wish to restore. You can either restore the entire folder or only selected files. I chose to restore the entire folder.
Now choose a location where you would like to restore either to the same original location or to a new location on your PC.
The restore process now starts and it takes only a couple of seconds to complete restoring a 1 GB folder. You can now find the deleted files and folders were restored back in the folder.
Aomei Backupper allows you to clone your system, hard disk or partition.
Disk clone is a process of copying the contents present in your hard disk with the exact settings and saving it as an image file which can be later used to restore your hard drive. It can also be used to recreate your computer configuration on another computer.
First, click on the clone operation that you wish to perform.
Now select the disk that you wish to clone.
Then select the destination disk where you would like to save the clone image of the source disk. Please note that the source and destination disk must be different. Finally, click on the Next button to start the cloning process.
Please remember that the data and files present in the destination disk may be lost once the clone process completes. So it is advised that you take backup of the destination disk before carrying out the cloning process.
In this section, you get access to various additional tools that act as a supplement for the backup tool.
Check Image tool allows you to check the contents present in the backup image file.
